Monsters in OmniMyth

If you're here, you're ostensibly interested in writing monsters for OmniMyth. Below are all of the details on pricing, timing, as well as some setting information and a link to the stripped down handbook. If you have any questions, feel free to message me on discord at Lief 🍃 #7413 or on Twitter at @liefbread.

The Gig

Each entry will be between 200-400 words, and will include a visual description/lore piece, a stat-block, and one or more 'attack methods'. Optionally they may have some number of abilities that can be used under certain conditions or a certain number of times per day.

The monsters may be aggressive, or docile, and do not necessarily need to fit the setting of Gællæffa, as the system itself is setting agnostic.

There should be a focus on proc-gen if possible, having tables or nested tables to roll up possible variations of the monsters opens up the possibility for bonuses where budget allows.

The Pay

Payment will include a one-time $5 up-front once an understanding of the rules/mechanics of the game is demonstrated, the system makes a handful of assumptions which will be listed below and I want to make sure that all monsters are balanced.

Additionally, each piece will be paid out at $00.13/word, averaging $45 per piece.

Payment will be sent upon piece completion via your choice of Paypal, Venmo, or Google Pay.

The Procedure

If you're interested in writing for OmniMyth, contact me at either of the two locations above or by email at brianaericson@gmail.com, if there is a slot open, we will discuss the monster that you would like to write (by name and a brief description or genre) and I will either approve or decline.

You will then have as long as necessary to learn the mechanics of the system, and I will be available to answer any questions that you may have during that period. Once you feel comfortable with the system and the mechanics of the game I will send you the $5 “sign on” bonus for your time in learning the rules.

After that, you'll be free to start and finish the piece in your own time, I may ask for revisions (up to two times) to note any significant corrections that need to be made or conflicts with the mechanics of the system. Once the piece is done to a degree that we both are satisfied with, I will pay you and you will send the final document over.

Additional Details

How Involved is Lief/Brian?

Pretty involved, we're going to be working together directly, the system has a lot of unique mechanics and functions differently from traditional OSR/Tabletop genres in a handful of ways that mean you need to learn the rules to write for it. I will do my best to not overreach or step on your creative vision in any way, and largely will aim to not touch the writing itself, my comments will largely be directed at the mechanics of the piece and how we can make them work.

What's the Format?

The OmniMyth Handbook is set for an A5 format, each monster will be either a 1 or 2 page spread.

What's the Content Policy?

We're avoiding overly-graphic descriptions of violence, rape, and suicide, otherwise, I'm giving you a largely free pass to do your thing. This list may change over time if something becomes a problem.

What Credits will You Receive?

You will be fully credited for the monster you've created, as well as noted in the 'additional content provided by' section of the book, with a link or contact information of your choice. You may choose to remain anonymous if you so desire.

What are you Doing with the Writing?

I'm populating the content section of a new system. Some of which may describe the world of Gællæffa, and some of which may not. I intend to print this book, as well as sell a PDF version. I may commission pieces of art for your monster to be included in/on its spread if I find it particularly striking and have the funding to do so.

The Guiding Principles of Monster Creation

  • Monsters in the OmniMyth handbook should aim to be a 'fair' fight for groups of 3-4 players.
  • There should be a focus on iterative rolls and procedural generation to create different categories or archetypes of certain monsters, with a great interest in creating tool-kits by which a Guide (DM or Referee in other systems) can populate their world and encounters, or hack monsters of their own.
  • This book embraces a non-canon mindset with the understanding that people will be using this system to create a world or setting of their own or warping the setting of Gællæffa to fit their own myths, settings, and stories.
